Many of the actions of the Battle of the Somme are associated with particular groups of soldiers.  Serre is a good example of this being associated with the Northern ‘Pals’ Battalions.

Serre is a small and quiet hamlet, situated approximately 12km north of Albert on the Puisieux to Mailly-Maillet road.

Serre’s notoriety comes about because it was here so many of them experienced their first and last taste of war in the first few minutes of the Battle of the Somme.
