Railway Hollow Cemetery is situated on the position of the British support line on 1 July 1916.  It is 1,300 yards west of Serre and 200 yards west of the plantation called Mark Copse.

The V Corps (as V Corps Cemetery No.3) made Railway Hollow Cemetery in 1917.

Railway Hollow Cemetery was designed by W C Von Berg.

Railway Hollow Cemetery contains the graves of 107 soldiers of the 3rd, 19th and 31st Divisions who fell on 1 July 1916, 13 November 1916 and 5 February 1917.

Railway Hollow Cemetery also contains the graves of two French soldiers who fell on 7 June 1915.

There are 44 unknown graves in Railway Hollow Cemetery.

Railway Hollow Cemetery is located west of the southern edge of Sheffield Memorial Park and covers an area of 441 square yards.
