IRC Cyprus Rally 2011 - SS9 Gialia 2
5 November and it’s the last day of the IRC Cyprus Rally 2011. There are six special stages in the Cyprus countryside – once again under a big blue sky on a bright sunny day.
My second objective for the last day? Special Stage 9, Gialia 2.
IRC Cyprus Rally 2011 - SS8 Anadiou

My first objective for the last day? Special Stage 8, Anadiou.
Kinyras Auto Sprint
Cypriots take their motor sport very seriously – specifically rallying and variants of rallying. I guess driving Cyprus’ roads on a day-by-day basis is a great training ground.
Cyprus has international rallies including a round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) and a number of local events. All the events are organised by the Cyprus Automobile Association (CAA), and great fun they are.
Belarus MT3 tractor
There's an old guy who lives on the edge of Kathikas who uses a couple of ancient tractors to tend his fields. There's something quite appealing about them - they're old, they're chunky and they're a bright orange/red colour.
As I drove past yesterday with the camera bag on the back seat, it was time to investigate.
Exploring the Akamas
Over the last two weeks I've had numerous expeditions into the Akamas with my son Will to go snorkelling. We even camped there a couple of nights. Fortunately I had my camera with me.
Opportunity is all around you
During the Paphos Rally I was driving the countryside around Pomos looking for a great spot to watch and photograph the rally. When I'd found my position, I'd got an hour to kill until the first car. So I went exploring.
Just an old bike
Paphos International Rally 2011
Last weekend it was the Paphos International Rally. I love motor rallying, so this was just too good to miss.
From a photography perspective, I gave the ceremonial start and finish a miss, but the action in Paphos Forest was an altogether different matter.
Orites Wind Farm, Kouklia, Cyprus
The Orites Wind Farm is now open and has become a feature of the landscape as you drive the highway between Limassol and Paphos.
The windfarm is one of four planned for Cyprus, that together will generate 13% of Cyprus' electricity requirement.
I've revisted it, finding the wind turbines fascinating. The long arms seemingly lazy sweep through the air looks incredibly graceful.
Church of Panagia Odigitria, Polemi
The main church in Polemi is the Church of Panagia Odigitria (The Leading Virgin Mary).
Dating originally from the 12th century, it was extended in 1723, badly damaged by an earthquake in 1953 and renovated in 1962.
