Pano Panagia (to give it its full name) is a village in the hills leading up to the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus.

It's heavily associated with Archbishop Makarios, and so is well established on the tourist trail.

We've walked the village before, and looked at the dusty relics in the Makarios Museum. Even with an interest in Cyprus' recent history, they didn't command our attention for long!

Today's visit was different though. In a few days time it's the Cyprus Rally. A slumbering village becomes a crossroads for forest special stages with high performance cars roaring through the hills. Check out the Cyprus Rally official site or visit my Cyprus and More site to find out more.

We were doing a recce to figure out where we could find ourselves a vantage point to watch the cars hurtle by. It turned into a really pleasant walk in the forest, unusual because there'd been heavy rains during the previous week. The normal stillness of the forest was disturbed by splashing of water running downs the hillsides, finding the valley bottoms, and turning into streams rushing over the rocks. Springtime in Cyprus is just wonderful!

The pictures are in my album of Panagia pictures.
