Peake Wood was the name given by the Army to a copse on the south east side of the road to Contalmaison.  Peake Wood fell into British hands on 5 July, 1916.

Peake Wood Cemetery was begun later that month.  It was used as a front line cemetery until February, 1917.

Peake Wood Cemetery contains the graves of 87 soldiers from the United Kingdom, seven from Australia, and one from Canada.  Additionally it contains memorials to five soldiers from the United Kingdom and one from Australia who are thought to be buried in it.

Peake Wood Cemetery covers an area of 792 square metres and was designed by W H Cowlishaw.

Peake Wood Cemetery is on the northwest side of the road from Fricourt to Contalmaison. The cemetery is on the north west side of the road, almost opposite a copse.
