Whatever the village is called, there's two little churches set in the countryside on the edge of it, near the SODAP Kamanterena winery.
I've driven past both of them loads of times, and every time filed away they're worth checking out photographically.
I'd got a bit of time on my hands, I was driving past, the camera bag was on the back seat - how about now?
Church 1 was approached up a dirt road. Nothing my 4x4 couldn't handle, but I wondered what the priest drives. I parked a little way back to make sure my car wouldn't appear in any pictures, got the camera bag and took a stroll.
When dealing with subjects like this, I try to get back a bit and walk all the way around the subject. Sometimes pictures appear from the oddest angles. Then I get closer, and do the same thing again. Finally I get right up close to check out the details. The approach worked out nicely and I came away with some nice pictures.
Church two was on the side of a steep hillside. This time the 4x4 was tested a bit more. The priest here must drive something similar - but how does his congregation get there? Or are they all mountain goats?
Same approach photographically, though this time there was a lot of clambering up and down the steep hillside to check out the possibilities. Again some nice shots came up, so I was happy.
The learning experience? Have a system that's thorough and works for you. Don't wander aimlessly looking for pictures, have a plan. Take your time. Pause and consider. If something catches your eye, think about why. Then try and get whatever it is that stopped you big and bold in your viewfinder.
