Crashing Waves At Sea Caves, Cyprus

Sea Caves is a rocky part of the coastline north of Paphos near Agios Georgios in Cyprus.

Aptly named, this part of the coastline has been interestingly eroded by the sea to form both caves and rock stacks.

I'd met a client, and was driving home past the sea.

The last few days in Cyprus have been very stormy, so it was a delight to have the sun out and be warm again.  The winds over the previous days had really got the sea going, so the normally tranquil scene was being lashed by waves.

Normally show me a landscape and I reach for a wide angle lens.  This time was different and I put a long zoom on.  The reach of the zoom was ideal to pick out the details.

Sea Caves, Paphos District, Cyprus, 5 November 2009After capturing the image above, I concentrated on the rocks at the bottom of the cliffs.

It's strange.  So often you see interesting shapes, but the resulting pictures just don't work.

I think its a factor of the movement of the water that makes the rocks interesting.  Take away the movement and you haven't got a picture.

To my mind rocky scenes are also monochrome scenes.

I like the sharp edges on the rocks and the sea washing over them.  One day I'll make the prefect rock and sea picture!

To see more pictures of this area, go to my album of Agios Georgios.
