Dogging in Polemi, Cyprus

Went for a walk with the dog and the Nikon.  This wasn't without risk.  Dogging in Polemi is a bit dodgy at this time of year on a Sunday.

That's because it's the hunting season in Cyprus.  Every red-blooded Cypriot male capable of walking dons his camos, picks up his shotgun, and ventures out into the country to shoot things.

They appear to shoot anything that moves, so a photographer with a dog is probably a good target.  And they don't restrict themselves to things that move.  Most of the road signs around here have been their victims too.

As these guys roam the countryside at will, it seemed a good idea to wear a high-viz vest to be sure to be seen.  (Though I did feel a complete pratt strolling around the countryside with a high-viz on.)

Autumn and Spring all at once. The vines have shed their leaves, whilst new fresh growth is springing up everywhere. Its a fascinating time in Cyprus.  Some of the plants have declared it Autumn.  The vines for example, have dropped their leaves.

At the same time all sorts of new growth is springing up.  After the long hot summer everything was parched and brown.  Temperatures dropping to the mid-twenties C and a bit of rain mean the countryside is rapidly turning green again.

It was good fun trying to capture both in one picture.  A challenge I'm sure I'll try again over the next few weeks.

Check out my album of pictures of Polemi in Cyprus to see all the pictures from the walk.
