When You See Something, Stop!

The light in Cyprus in Autumn is a photographer's dream The light in Cyprus in Autumn is a photographer's dream

I'd been in Coral Bay and Tala doing some commercial work.  That was wrapped up, and I was on my way home.

It was one of those days you get in Cyprus in the Autumn with perfect light.  Sure it was approaching midday, but the low Autumn sun raking across the countryside made everything look great and brought a smile to your face.

As I turned off the coast road at Sea Caves to drive up the steep climb to Kathikas, I saw something.  Stuff it - let's take 15 minutes to check it out.

What I saw was a bunch of trees in a little field surrounded by rocks.  The raking sun made them look great.  The finishing touch was the verdant new growth around them.

Autumn's new growth, Pegeia, Paphos District, Cyprus, 18 November 2009One thing that's weird about Cyprus is you get Autumn and Spring all at the same time.  For plants that have made it through the hot summer, its Autumn.  For plants that couldn't survive through the heat, it's Spring.

The result, the trees looked great against a clear blue sky.  The bright green of the new growth and the vivid blue of the sky were almost unreal.  The light in Cyprus for photography is quite amazing.

As always, 15 minutes became half an hour as I picked my way around the field.  Yes the pictures were coming, but not quite.  It was only when I got down and shot against the light I finally got what I wanted.

Check out the rest of the pictures at my album of Pegeia, Paphos District, Cyprus.
