Bedford K Series Lorry near Evrykhou
The Bedford K Series lorries were first built in 1939 and were quickly redesigned for military use. This was largely a matter of styling, involving a sloping bonnet with a flat front with headlights incorporated and a crash bar to protect the radiator in a minor collision.
Bedford J Truck
The Bedford J truck was manufactured between 1958 and 1976 and was based on a 9ft 11in wheelbase two ton chassis.
There was a choice of two engines, both made by Bedford, either the 3.52 litre six cylinder petrol engine, or a four cylinder 3.14 litre diesel, that was upgraded to 3.29 litres (200 cu in) in 1960, and again in 1967 to 3.61 litres.
Austin 1800
Driving down from Lysos towards Polis, just outside Peristerona I saw an old friend basking in the roadside sunshine.
It was an Austin 1800 ‘Landcrab’ – a car design dating from the mid 1960s. I remember well having mixed feelings when a mate turned up in one. What an ugly, supremely comfortable car.
