Tunbridge Wells West and Birchden Junction in 1983
What is now the Spa Valley Railway was in 1983 a railway backwater facing imminent closure. This year has seen the Spa Valley Railway reopen Birchden Junction to run alongside Network Rail to the shared station at Eridge.
Wild Tulips at Polemi
The village of Polemi is famous for its wild tulips, and the village council makes a really big deal of it. It must be some historical thing, because to the best of my knowledge the wild tulips only exist in one particular field.
Today being the height of the tulip season, I slung the camera bag on my back and rode along to go and have a look.
Today is also Polemi's Tulip Festival, so the one field was a pretty popular place to be.
The Purple Vineyard, Kathikas
I'd seen this field a few times as I drove by, and yesterday found the time to visit it with the camera. In all my travelling around Cyprus, it's the only vineyard I've seen filled with purple flowers.
Springtime in Cyprus
Springtime in Cyprus is just the best! The countryside becomes totally verdant after the winter rains and blossom is everywhere. Here’s what an hour with the Nikon captured yesterday morning!
The blossom on the trees has survived a pretty wild week. We’ve had rain, wind and thunder – usually all at once. Despite that the trees are still dressed up in their spring finery.
Vrisi ton Peyiotisson Springs, Pegeia
Vrisi ton Peyiotisson Springs is a very important landmark in Pegeia for both residents and visitors alike.
In the bustle that is Pegeia today, the springs sit in a peaceful corner of the grounds of Pegeia Town Hall.
As such, it has become the backdrop for lots of couples who get married in the Town Hall's gardens.
Vrisi ton Peyiotisson Springs was constructed in 1907 by the builder Achilleas Konstantinou, presumably to replace an older fountain.
In those days, the village fountain was hugely important. As recently as 1956 it provided the community with its main source of drinking water.
The fountain was a source of life for Pegeia because the village had been suffering from a drought. Pegeia formed and grew around the enlivening springs.
Spring Flowers In Cyprus
Spring in Cyprus is wonderful. Everywhere is covered is brightly coloured flowers. Of all the seasons, Cyprus is at its best in the Spring.
Natural beauty always moves me. And so the camera has been out a fair amount over the last couple of weeks.
First Three Months In Cyprus
We've been living in Cyprus for almost three months now.
Its been busy, but of course there's been some time to get out and about with my camera.
I'm still fascinated by the quality of the light here. It does amazing things to the most mundane subjects that set you off shutter-happy very easily.
