It’s said that dull days are great for colours. The argument goes that dull light increases saturation.
Maybe. But when you’re cranked up to ISO 500 and struggling to hand hold at 1/30th second and f5.6, nothing is easy.
I also think that dull days are best rendered in mono, so shape and form becomes a lot more significant that colour.
The wind was a factor too. If there’s movement, I like to represent it.
Check out the tree shot at the beginning of the gallery. It was being lashed in the wind – and the 1/30th second exposure has kept the tree mostly sharp, but has enabled some of the branches to blur to give the all important sense of movement.
In summary – not an easy day – but despite that some rewarding pictures came out of it.
Judge for yourself – check out the pictures in my album of pictures of Northamptonshire.
