Set in an almost tropical part of China, the Jiayang Coal Railway is well worth a visit.

The line climbs steeply to the 'half-way' point at Mifengyan, where the trains reverse before continuing the climb to Huangcunjin.

The main shed and works supporting the line is at Shibanxi. At the lower end of the line the steam services are supported by an electric service with overhead line equipment.

When visiting watch out for the bogie carriage in the middle of the train - that's the one the pigs travel in ontheir way to and from the market!

The future of the line seems reasonably secure as it is gradually becoming a tourist line.

See pictures of my visit to the Jiayang Coal Mine Railway at Shibanxi.
