The Yinghao Coal Mine Railway in China was built in 1962.

To a gauge of 762mm, it ran 9.8 km between the loco shed in Yinghao Meikuang through Xiangyang Chezhan to Yinghao.

There was a junction at Xiangyang Chezhan where the line drops down to the mine and coal loading facilities at Liangjiawajing.

The section between Yinghao Meikuang and Xiangyang Chezhan was normally used only by light engines running to or from the shed. Loaded trains operated between Liangjiawajing and the interchange sidings at Yinghao.

The line was operated by C2 0-8-0 tender locomotives - big, powerful locomotives despite being narrow gauge.

The shed and works at Yinghao Meikuang were a delight. Around the yard there were a number of C2s in various stages of disrepair. There was also a triangle for turning locomotives.

I visited the line in Spring 1997 on a trip organised by Bernd Seiler of Farrail Tours.  We spent two fun days chasing the 0-8-0s around the countryside, and got some really great pictures of the railway in action.

See the pictures from my visit to the Yinghao Coal Mine Railway.
