I made a number of visits to the famous Barry Scrapyard, but sadly only shot slides on one occasion.

1980 was a good time to visit Barry Scrapyard. Whilst there'd already been a bunch of departures, the majority of the locomotives remaining, slowing rusting in the salty sea air.

1980 was an interesting time to visit Barry Scrapyard for a second reason.

The operator of the scrapyard, the famous Dai Woodham, had just scrapped the last two steam locomotives. The final two victims were an ex-GWR 51xx 2-6-2T no. 4156 and a BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 no. 92085

Looking at the pictures, its interesting to see what's happened subsequently to the locomotives that faced the cutter's torch at barry Scrapyard in 1980.

See my pictures of Barry Scrapyard.
