Living in Cyprus I do miss a spot of casual gricing.

So on a visit to the UK as I drove over the East Coast Main Line just north of York at the amazingly named Nether Poppleton I had to stop and have a look.

The snow was an added bonus!

It looked like on two of the four tracks were in use, and the service was intensive.

A succession of Class 91s, Class 221, Class 254, Class 185 and even a Class 66 on a long freight went past.

From a photography perspective, the easy shot was north off the bridge with the sun behind me.  The interesting shot though was south off the bridge straight into the sun.

As is often the case, the into the sun shot was made easier by the snow acting as a giant reflector.

All too soon I had to pack up and continue my journey.  But after fifteen months of no railway pictures, it was just too good to miss!

Enjoy the rest of the pictures at UK Railway Scene – 2010.
