I’ve just added some new scans of my slides dating from 1983 to the Picture Gallery.

The pictures were taken at Clapham Junction on 3 August 1983 – and show a time of rapid change.

At one end of the spectrum, the pictures include a Class 405 4-SUB unit at the end of its long life forming a London Victoria to West Croydon service.

In contrast, there’s a shot of brand new Class 455 unit no. 5832 clattering over the points with the famous signal gantry in the background.

And then there’s a couple of Class 50s in large logo blue livery – at that time gainfully employed on London Waterloo to Exeter services.

Check out these latest additions to my Album of UK Railway Scene 1983.
