‘Oliver Cromwell’ is a personal favourite.

I remember it from living in Carlisle in 1967 as a Kingmoor loco, and then of course it achieved stardom on 11 August 1968 hauling the famous ‘15 Guinea Special’.

I was there, and I’ve still got the battered Kodachrome slide!

So when Russ Hillier called with details of a photo charter with the Britannia, I had to be there.

The day wasn’t the best – some reasonable spells of sunshine, but predominantly dull and grey. Despite that, I got some pictures I like.

In some ways this charter is the end of an era for me. I’ve done loads since getting wound up into charters in 2002.

But this one might be the last.

We’re moving to the sunshine in Cyprus in two weeks, so opportunities to take part in the banter at Kinchley Lane or Rabbit Bridge are going to be severely limited.

Charters have given me a lot of fun and I’ve made a load of friends along the way. I’ll miss them and I’ll miss you!
