It was the heritage traction that was the subject of these photo charters organised by Jason Cross of the East Midlands Railway Photographic Society.
The pictures were taken during two bitterly cold nights in December 2006 and February 2007 – so cold that on both occasions I had to retreat to the car for a warm up.
Most people photographing heritage traction seem to work at getting the perfect record shot – more so even than those who tend to concentrate on steam.
For me modern traction poses a whole raft of challenges because there’s clearly no drifting steam and smoke to play with.
Despite that, there’s original shots to be had, as these shots demonstrate.
