The Memorial to the 34th Division is located on the eastern edge of La Boiselle, approached from the road to Contalmaison.

The 34th Division lost more heavily than any other Division that attacked on July 1, 1916.  The Tyneside Irish and Tyneside Scottish in particular suffered a very high casualty rate.

Almost 80% of the men of the Division became casualties – most of them in the first ten minutes of the attack.

The inscription on the memorial reads:

To the glory of God an in memory of the heroic dead.

This monument is erected to commemorate the illustrious deeds of the 34th Division near this spot on July 1st 1916, the first battle in which the Division was engaged.
