D1583 / 47.020 / 47.556 / 47.844

D1583 was built by BR at Crewe and entered traffic on 23 May 1964 at Cardiff Canton. It's original TOPS number was 47.020. It was renumbered 47.556 during February 1981, and further renumbered to 47.844 during April 1990.

In May 2002 47.844 was moved to Brush Traction for conversion to a Class 57.  Originally it was allocated the number 57.607, later changed to 57.307.

However structural problems were discovered when the loco was stripped down and the conversion plans were scrapped - and so was 47.844 during October 2004.
